I made myself look exhausted, with heavy dark circles under my eyes. Holding a bowl of oatmeal, I walked into the bedroom.

David was in his wheelchair, looking like he hadn't slept all night. As soon as he saw me, he squeezed out tears of regret.

"Claire, please, let me explain... I made a stupid mistake!" he stuttered.

He grabbed my hand, his acting as flawless as ever. "I love you," he oozed. "I remember everything you've done for me these five years."
