My phone buzzed.

Xavier sent me a text from someone else's phone: [Where are you? I'm coming to find you.]

I deleted it.

A moment later, another text popped up: [Susan, please let me explain.]

I deleted it.

The third message popped up: [That assistant really doesn't matter to me. She's just a kid. I never thought of her that way.]

I deleted it.

The fourth message read: [Can you stop being so difficult? Can we sit down and talk?]

I set my phone aside and went back to reviewing my draft.
