Lawrence stood his ground, and I waved over a group of guards.

His expression shifted dramatically as he moved protectively in front of Marina. "What about Marina...?"

"Marina will return to the palace with us," I said. "Your Highness, this way."

The guards practically dragged Lawrence and Marina into the carriage.

The air inside the carriage on the way back was even more stifling than before.

Lawrence held Marina in his arms, gently playing with her fingers.

I kept staring out the window, but when something caught my eye, I turned away and shut my eyes, letting exhaustion wash over…
