Chapter 5

"Divorce?" James looked at me as if he'd heard something unbelievable. He frowned and crouched down beside me. "Emily, are you being ridiculous again?"

Was I ridiculous?

I stared at him, and suddenly, I couldn't help but feel amused.

"I'm not messing around," I repeated calmly. "I said, we're getting a divorce."

"Why?" James sounded impatient. "Things have been good between us lately, haven't they? Is this because of something my mom said again?"

"This has nothing to do with your mom." I stood up, putting some space between us. "I think it's time we stop pretending."
