Chapter 6

Leo cried himself to sleep in Edward's arms that night.

Edward laid him gently on the bed and tucked the covers around him.

Then he stared at the tiny face that mirrored his own for a long while before stepping out and closing the bedroom door quietly.

Claire sat on the small living room couch, her hands twisted together so tightly her knuckles had gone white.

"You heard everything," he said.

"Yes. Were you serious about what you said to him?" she asked.

Edward stepped closer, looking down at her with unwavering gravity. "I never say anything I don't mean."
