Chapter 3

At these words, Freddie Taylor’s body jolted violently. His face turned ashen. Then, as if all his strength had been drained, he could barely stand.

“I… child…”

Freddie Taylor took a step forward but was shoved away by me.

I casually threw a glass cup at him.

Blood instantly streamed down his forehead.

But he paid no heed, closing his eyes in agony.

“You don’t look at me like that. I was desperate at the time…” Freddie Taylor choked out, his eyes filled with helplessness and anguish.

I bent down to pick up a shard of glass.

I was in too much pain.

I wanted to destroy everything.

To make him suffer with me.

But just as I was about to act, the stranger’s number flashed again on my phone.

For some reason, even in this critical moment, I instinctively opened the message.

“Don’t act impulsively, sister. I beg you not to.”

“You’ve already reported it to the police. Let the law deal with him. Don’t soil your hands over a scum like him.”

I suddenly laughed, transitioning into tears.

Tears streamed uncontrollably, blurring my vision.

I clutched my phone tightly, as if it were my last lifeline.

Yes, I had already reported it to the police.

How could I ruin myself over a scum like him?

My parents would be heartbroken.

Seizing the moment, Freddie Taylor snatched the glass shard from my hand.

“Don’t act rashly. I beg you, don’t hurt yourself.”

But I was too exhausted.

I could no longer hold onto the phone and fainted.

As consciousness faded, I heard Freddie Taylor speaking to someone else.

“Jingnian, how did you become like this? Didn’t you used to adore her?”

“You went through so much trouble to pursue her for four years. Why don’t you cherish her now that you’ve got her?”

I remembered the voice—it belonged to the girl who had hit Freddie Taylor at the press conference.

Her voice was filled with scorn.

“Why don’t you act like a man? If you’ve truly fallen for someone else, break up with her! Give her freedom and grant your beloved a rightTaylorl place.”

“No, I love her,” Freddie Taylor’s voice cut through, followed by a curse.

“You damn bastard!”

Then came a series of violent thuds.

I struggled to open my eyes and saw Freddie Taylor sprawled on the ground.

The girl was wielding a wooden stool, her chest heaving with emotion.

“How dare you say you love her!”

“Even a child knows that if you love someone, you’d give them your candy. What about you?”

“You cheat, keep mistresses, and hurt her without restraint.”

Freddie Taylor lay on the ground.

The wound on his face from the glass cup was untreated, and with the girl’s blow, he looked terribly injured.

After a long while, Freddie Taylor suddenly began to sob.

“She… just now, she wanted to kill me. Today, I realized for the first time how far I’ve pushed her.”

Then came a prolonged, suppressed weeping.

My consciousness began to fade again.

Gradually, the sounds around me grew indistinct.

I drifted back to sleep.
