Chapter 3

On the third day, I accidentally smashed a medicine bottle in the treatment room.

The glass sliced deep into my forearm.

Blood quickly pooled across the table.

Just as my coworker handed me some gauze, the door was pushed open.

Caleb stood in the doorway, clearly having run all the way here.

"Evelyn," he called out.

I froze for a second. "What are you doing here?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he rushed over and grabbed my hand. "How did you get hurt?" he asked.

"Broken glass."

"It's so deep."

"Just need a few stitches."

Caleb's face went a little pale.
