Chapter 1
In my previous life, my sister Emily got her wish and was adopted by a wealthy couple.
But she never imagined she'd only get to enjoy the high life for five years before her adoptive parents went bankrupt from a bad investment, ending up buried under massive debt.
Meanwhile, after graduation, I teamed up with Ryan, my fellow orphanage kid, and we started a tech business. Our software scored us millions, and we broke into high society together.
Driven by jealousy and hatred, Emily grabbed me and took me with her as she jumped off the rooftop.
When I opened my eyes, we were both back on the day that the wealthy couple came to the orphanage to pick their child.
Emily pretended to be sick and hid under her blanket, staying out of sight.
She told me, "This time it's definitely your turn to get adopted. When you fly high and land among the rich, don't forget about me."
I just smiled at her overly sweet, fake act.
I realized she was given a second chance at life, too.
After all, this was the same person who, in my previous life, was so afraid I'd steal her chance at adoption that she locked me up in a storage closet. There was no way she'd suddenly turn so nice.
Emily said, "When you get to the Shaw family, make sure to come back and visit me whenever you can."
If I hadn't caught that glint of malice in her eyes, I might've actually believed her.
But I knew exactly what kind of person Emily was.
She was only saying all this because she wanted to get something out of me.
After all, she'd spent time with the Shaw family before and knew exactly how lavish Andrew and Sophia could be when it came to treating their adopted daughter.
Back in our past lives, whenever Emily got something new, she'd always flaunt it in front of us—really going out of her way to show off.
Just as I was about to speak, the door swung open and in walked a couple, oozing money and class from head to toe.
Olivia, the orphanage director, followed right behind them.
Olivia frowned when she saw Emily still lying in bed. She said, "Emily, why are you still in bed? Hurry up and get up. Go greet Mr. and Mrs. Shaw."
In my previous life, Emily would've already started greeting them enthusiastically, without anyone needing to say a word.
But now, she hid her face under the covers and had a sudden coughing fit.
She said, "Sorry, my body just isn't cooperating today—I can't get out of bed. But you should really take a look at my sister. She's smart, kind, basically better than me in every way. If you choose her, you'll never regret it."
Olivia looked genuinely surprised.
As someone who'd spent the most time with both of us, Olivia knew Emily's true nature—arrogant, spoiled, and always acting like she was better than everyone else.
If it weren't for that attitude, with Emily's looks, she would've been adopted ages ago.
But she turned her nose up at every family, always holding out for a rich one.
Now that a wealthy couple had finally arrived, Olivia couldn't understand why Emily would suddenly recommend me instead of seizing the opportunity herself.
But Olivia didn't dwell on it.
To her, I was the quiet, well-behaved one—definitely the better choice for adoption.
Andrew and Sophia seemed fine with me, too.
So I hopped into their luxury car and left with them.
As soon as the car started up, I spotted Emily bursting out of her dorm room, racing toward the guys' dorm.
