Chapter 1
Before heading to the disaster area for rescue, I asked Bernard Bishop one last time, "When this is over, will you marry me?"
His lips trembled. After a long pause, he said, "Yes."
A cold chill washed over me instantly.
Damn it. Wasn't it said that after being rejected a hundred times, I could go back to the real world?
But it turned out I was overthinking.
During the rescue, a landslide struck. His first love, Leslie Henry, pushed me to my death.
Bernard stayed at the hospital with Leslie, who only had a few scratches, for three full days before he remembered me.
All he heard was the news of my death.

Late at night, I finished my shift and went home. I heard my boyfriend Bernard talking to a woman at the door, so I stopped to listen.
"Bernard, I'm about to get married. Is there really nothing you want to say to me?" Leslie asked. "I know you have a girlfriend now.
"You two have been happy these two years. I shouldn't have disturbed you, but I really can't help it."
Her voice was trembling.
Bernard sneered. "What does your marriage have to do with me? What right do I have to give you my blessings? It's really something that you'd even consider inviting me to your wedding."
"Bernard, you know I have no family. I asked you to come as my brother," Leslie said.
"Leslie, don't you find this ridiculous? What kind of brother am I to you? Your lover? Or your ex-boyfriend?"
"Bernard, do you have to talk like that?"
Leslie took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "You need to be there. I have something else to do, so I'm heading out."
Hearing footsteps approaching, I quickly slipped into the emergency exit and waited until she was gone.
Only silence remained inside the apartment.
But my heart was pounding so hard I thought it would burst out of my chest.
"Host, as long as you get rejected this time, the mission will fail and we can go home." The system's voice was so cheerful that its electronic tone shook.
I tried to hold back my excitement, but I couldn't stop the grin spreading across my face.
The system and I were accidentally pulled into this world by a spacetime rift. It said I could go home if I failed to win Bernard over.
The requirement was to make him reject my marriage proposal one hundred times.
I had already been shot down ninety-nine times. If he rejected me one more time, I'd finally be able to go home.
My heart was pounding and my hands shaking with excitement.
I fumbled with the lock and almost couldn't open the door.
Bernard was sitting on the couch, smoking, looking totally defeated. When he saw me come in, he stubbed out his cigarette.
"What's wrong? Why are you smoking all of a sudden? Is something bothering you?" I asked.
Bernard froze for a moment, then shook his head.
I set the groceries down on the table and took a seat beside him.
I said, "Today is our tenth anniversary. I wanted to take you out to eat, but I thought better of it. We're going to get married anyway, so we should save the money for a house.
"I have a disaster relief mission in two days. A lot of people from the hospital are going. When I come back, will you marry me?"
I looked at him expectantly. Come on. Reject me.
I was a doctor in my original world, so I chose medicine here too and became a doctor.
I loved the feeling of snatching people from the hands of death.
Bernard locked eyes with me, silent for ages. "Okay."
"What?" I blurted out.
My eyes widened in disbelief. The smile froze on my face. Why did he suddenly agree? He always rejected me when I brought this up before. What happened?
"I said yes," Bernard repeated.
My heart went cold in an instant.
I forced a smile to save face.
The system screamed and ranted in my head.
We both couldn't help cursing.
Damn it.
