Chapter 6
Hadley and the Guerrero family's servants rushed up to try and get Miranda, but most of them were new faces who'd joined after Curtis passed away.
Not knowing how to address him, they could only call out, "Sir, please calm down and put Miss Guerrero down. Otherwise, Mr. Guerrero won't let this slide."
Everyone in the Guerrero family knew Miranda was Kieran's everything. He spoiled her rotten, giving her the best of everything. If she wanted the stars, he'd reach for them.
Curtis's voice was icy and merciless. "If you don't want trouble, get out of my way. I'm not leaving until they're dead."
Hadley moved fast, snatching a fruit knife from the table and grabbing Barbara, pressing the blade to her neck. He warned, "Mr. Guerrero, if you don't let go of Miss Miranda, don't blame me for hurting your beloved woman!"
Barbara felt the cold blade against her skin and cried out in terror, "Curtis, please, help me. I don't want to die!"
Miranda, her neck squeezed painfully, burst into loud sobs, terrified.
Curtis hesitated, unsure whether to make a move. Vita seized the moment, grabbed Miranda, and ran.
But Curtis reacted instantly, swung his leg and landed a brutal kick on Vita's back, sending both sprawling to the ground.
Just then, an icy voice echoed from the doorway. "You'd better have a good explanation for this."
Bathed in the bright light, a tall man in a black trench coat strode in. He looked like the very picture of warmth and charm.
He was handsome, with sharp features that could melt hearts, yet his expression was as cold and grim.
Hadley, as if seeing his savior, rushed over and cried out, "Mr. Guerrero, you're finally back!"
Kieran strode into the living room, helped Vita and Miranda up from the floor, and brushed them off. He said apologetically, "Vita, I'm sorry I got back so late."
When Miranda saw Kieran, her lips quivered and she whimpered, "Daddy, that bad man and woman bullied Mommy. Hadley called the police, but they never came. Can you kick those bad people out?"
Seeing Miranda's tear-streaked face, Kieran felt a stab in his heart. He gently pinched Miranda's chubby cheek and promised, "Miranda, don't worry. Daddy will make things right for you and Mommy."
Then, his cold gaze hit Curtis, sending a chill straight down his spine.
Kieran's eyes were full of frost as he snapped, "Curtis, do you want to die for real this time?"
Kieran and Curtis were like archenemies to each other.
Curtis, even with death staring him in the face, still refused to repent. He sneered, "Well, look who it is. So my little brother, who is three years younger than me, has finally made it big.
"Back when I was a kid, Dad would always sneak my old imported toys to you. I didn't want my fiancée, so you married her and had a kid with her. Do you really love my cast-offs that much?
"Once a bastard, always a bastard. No matter how many dirty tricks you pull, even if you manage to snatch the Guerrero family fortune, you'll never be legitimate.
"You can't change your lowly origins, and you can't change the fact that your daughter is just a bastard born from cheating."
Kieran moved like lightning, slapping Curtis hard across the face. Pain exploded on Curtis's left cheek. He spat a mouthful of blood onto the marble floor.
Curtis stared at him in disbelief. "Kieran, did you seriously just hit me?"
In Curtis's world, Kieran might have stolen his father and his favorite toys, but no matter how much Kieran took, he could never steal Curtis's birthright as the Guerrero family's rightful heir.
To Curtis, Kieran was just the bastard son from an affair. He had no right to raise a hand against him, let alone talk back.
As for the things Curtis didn't want, Kieran could only have them if Curtis allowed it. But the moment Curtis wanted them back, Kieran had to give them up.
The next second, Kieran spun around and slammed a powerful kick right into Curtis's chest. Looming over him, he sneered, "Curtis, I don't just dare to hit you. I dare to kick you, too."
