“I did,” Nora said.

Daniel heard her answer the stranger, but the photographer was asking him to hold the award higher. Nora sometimes talked recipes with guests. By the time he looked across the room, Rhys Whitmore had gone and Nora was carrying two empty glasses toward the kitchen.

Three days later, Daniel found the old notebook while looking for the reservation ledger.
