Chapter 4
Tristan stood tall, his suit worn with meticulous precision, and he'd even sprayed on some flashy cologne.
I slowly swiveled my chair to face him.
Tristan's smile froze on his face.
His eyes went wide, locking his gaze on me, speechless for several seconds.
"R-Ruth? What are you doing here?" He was shocked.
He glanced around, his voice trembling. "Where's Ms. Spencer? Did you slip in when the cleaning staff wasn't around?
"Are you out of your mind? Get out, right now!"
I leaned back in my chair, hands clasped, watching him with a relaxed confidence.
I smirked, "Tristan, what did you just call me?"
William pushed up his glasses, his tone icy. "Mr. Waller, mind your words. The person sitting in front of you is the sole owner of Spencer Real Estate, Ms. Ruth Spencer."
Tristan looked like he'd been struck by lightning, swaying on his feet.
He pointed at me, his hand trembling. "No way! This can't be happening. She's just a housewife with no job.
"Ruth, are you teaming up with someone to put on a show and fool me? You'd really go this far to keep from getting divorced?"
The way he was fooling himself was hilarious to me.
I sneered, "Putting on a show? Tristan, do you seriously think Mr. Underwood would waste his time pretending with me?"
I threw the financial report right at him.
The papers went flying everywhere, scattering across the floor.
I said, "See for yourself, Mr. Waller. This is all your handiwork at the company over the past three years."
Tristan picked up a sheet of paper, and after one glance, his face went ghostly pale.
He stammered, "These... these are regular business entertainment expenses..."
I cut him off, my voice going cold. "Regular business expenses?
"You took Eva on a trip to Serotin Island and paid for it with the company's team-building funds.
"You bought a Cartier bracelet for your darling Olivia and claimed it as a client gift.
"Tristan, do you really think the finance department is my personal charity?"
Tristan lost it, lunging across the desk and trying to grab my hand. "Ruth, please, let me explain. I can pay it all back."
I pulled my hand back in disgust and pressed the intercom.
I instructed, "HR, take Tristan to handle his termination paperwork.
"Legal team, follow up. We've gathered all the evidence of his embezzlement. Either he pays up, or he goes to jail."
Tristan collapsed to the floor, drained of strength.
He said weakly, "Ruth, do you really have to go this far? Come on, we've been married for three years."
"Oh, so you remember we've been married for three years?" I leaned in, staring him straight in the eyes.
I added, "Did you ever think about our three years together when you brought Olivia into my house?
"Did you ever think about our three years together when you told me to get lost and move into the attic?"
Right then, a ruckus sounded outside the office's floor-to-ceiling windows.
Tristan instinctively turned to look.
Down in the parking lot, a tow truck was slowly pulling away, dragging off his most treasured BMW 5 Series.
"My car! That's my car," Tristan bolted to the window, banging on the glass in a frenzy.
"That's a company car for executives. Now that you're fired, the company's taking it back. Got a problem with that?" I walked up behind him, my voice calm.
Tristan turned around, his eyes bloodshot. "Ruth, are you really trying to destroy me here?"
I sneered, "This is nothing. I haven't really started yet, and you're already breaking down?"
I smiled and pointed at the door. "Olivia's downstairs, waiting for you to take her out for some Hermès shopping. Mr. Waller, go on, be my guest."
Tristan staggered out of the office like a ghost, every step like torture, as if he was walking on shards of glass.
I could already picture the mess he'd be downstairs.
All those colleagues who'd been buttering him up moments ago would be pointing and whispering about him.
I wondered what Olivia, who thought she'd be a trophy wife, would look like when seeing him kicked out.
William walked over to me and asked quietly, "Ruth, you're really letting him go like that?"
I looked out the window, my tone relaxed. "No rush.
"Eva's add-on card hasn't been shut down yet. The real drama is kicking off."
After lunch, as I was figuring out how to deal with their whole family, my phone suddenly rang.
It was the property management.
He said, "Ms. Spencer, an old lady is making a scene at your door. She's shouting that we're trying to kill her, and she even twisted open the fire hydrant in the hallway."
I raised an eyebrow. Eva's knack for causing chaos never disappointed me.
I said, "William, come on, let's head back and see what kind of mess she's making."
When William and I got back to No. 18 Harbor Lane, the hallway was soaked, water everywhere.
Eva was parked right outside the door, slapping her thighs and screaming bloody murder, her voice loud and sharp.
She shouted, "Everyone, come look. My daughter-in-law is trying to murder me. She cut off my water and power, and now she's kicking me out. She wants me dead!"
