The officer escorting me stopped in his tracks and saluted. "Chief Mason."

Matthew ignored him and rushed straight to me.

Noticing the handcuffs on my wrists, he sucked in a sharp breath.

He spun around and yelled at the officers behind him, "This is outrageous! Who put handcuffs on Ms. Reed? Unlock them now."

The officer next to me scrambled for the keys, his hands trembling as he hurried to unlock my cuffs.

The deep, bloody mark on my wrist was exposed, horrible to look at.

Matthew pulled out a handkerchief and wiped sweat from his forehead.
