Chapter 3
I watched Ferol's face go pale in an instant and kept going.
"The CEO of Voyager Capital is surnamed Baxlor."
Ferol's body started to tremble.
Serene still didn't get it and kept defending him.
"What's the big deal if his last name is Baxlor? There are tons of people out there with that name!"
I ignored her and just stared at Ferol.
"You got close to me, tried to butter me up, all because you knew I was one of the marriage candidates for the Baxlor family, right?"
"You wanted to use me to get a foot in the door with the Baxlor family."
"Too bad for you, you picked the wrong horse."
Ferol shot up from his seat, his face dark with rage.
"Judy, don't make baseless accusations!"
"Baseless accusations?" I sneered. "Why don't you call the CEO of Voyager Capital right now and ask them why they pulled out?"
He didn't dare because he knew I was telling the truth.
Serene finally sensed something was wrong and clutched Ferol's sleeve.
"Ferol, what's going on? Tell me!"
Ferol jerked his arm free, shooting her a vicious glare.
"Shut up! This is all your fault, you walking disaster!"
He jabbed a finger at me, then at Serene.
"Not a single decent person in your Breim family!"
With that, he stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Serene just sat there, frozen, her face drained of all color.
I picked up my napkin and slowly wiped the corner of my mouth.
Serena, this was just the beginning.
I would make sure that so-called "happiness" you stole from me became the cruelest thorn in your heart.
Serene ran home in tears.
My parents called me right away, and the moment I picked up, they started yelling at me.
"Judy! What did you say to Ferol? You've made your sister so upset she's about to lose it!"
"Why are you so vicious? Can't you stand to see your sister happy, huh?"
I just listened quietly, not saying a word.
It was exactly the same in my last life.
No matter how badly Ferol hurt me, they'd always just tell me to suck it up.
"Just bear with it. Men have it rough in the world."
"Can't you just swallow your pride a bit, just to keep the family whole?"
All they ever cared about was the Breim family's reputation. My well-being never mattered to them.
"Mom," I said, my voice eerily calm, "What if I told you Ferol gets violent?"
There was a long silence on the other end.
A few seconds later, my mom's voice came back, tinged with impatience.
"It's normal for couples to resort to violence during a fight. Your sister chose him, so she has to put up with it!"
"We wanted you to marry Ferol back then, but you refused. Now you're just making snide remarks. Judy, how can you be so heartless!"
She slammed the phone down.
I held my phone, staring out at the pitch-black night.
See? This was my family.
To them, my pain was nothing but pointless drama.
Back in the bedroom, I wiped Roffin down like always.
His body seemed a bit warmer than before.
I leaned in close and whispered in his ear.
"Roffin, they're all bullying me."
"If you don't wake up soon, your wife's going to get bullied to death."
My voice shook, and my tears spilled down uncontrollably.
One tear fell right onto the back of his hand.
It was scalding.
Just then, I felt a gentle pressure around my hand.
The hand that belonged to someone in a coma now closed around my fingers, weak but unwavering.
I jerked my head up and met a pair of deep, unfathomable black eyes.
Roffin was awake.
No, he'd been awake all along.
He was just waiting for the right moment.
Now, he was staring at me, fully conscious, his eyes swirling with a mix of emotions I couldn't decipher.
"You..." I started to say.
The bedroom door was suddenly kicked open.
Paula stormed in, dragging Kaelin and a group of bodyguards behind her.
Kaelin was Roffin's half-brother. In my previous life, he was the culprit behind Serene's exile from the Baxlor family.
Paula pointed at me, her face blazing with fury.
"Judy! You vicious woman! How dare you poison my son!"
Kaelin slapped a lab report right in my face.
"This is Roffin's latest blood test! It shows a high concentration of succinylcholine chloride! That stuff can paralyze breathing muscles and stop heart!"
"Judy, how could you be so cruel! What did Roffin ever do to you that you'd want to kill him!"
