"Ms. Carter, I think we should sit down and talk," I said evenly.

Madeline chuckled lightly. "I'll be at the office, waiting for you."

I grabbed the medical report and headed to the law firm. My assistant met me at the door. "Ms. Sherman, there's a lady here to see you. I've put her in the conference room."

I nodded and handed her my purse.

When I walked in, Madeline was already seated, smiling at me. "Ms. Sherman, you really live up to your reputation as a partner at a top-tier firm. You're so efficient."
