Chapter 1
The night before finally meeting my online crush in real life.
My step-sister was practically begging me to drink the "wellness tea" she'd just made.
As soon as I took a sip, a stream of comments suddenly flashed in front of my eyes:
[The female lead didn't come back to life for nothing. One cup of sleepytime tea knocks out her wicked stepsis, and then she takes her place to meet the rich young master pretending to be broke. What a classic scheming, dark heroine move. Haha.]
[Serves her right. The side character always thinks she's prettier and more talented than the female lead, always stepping on her to make herself look good. She totally deserves it.]
[I just love seeing the side character waste her winning hand, while the female lead turns a losing hand into a face-slapping comeback. That's what makes a story so satisfying.]
Seeing me hesitate, Nicole Smith kept urging, "Come on, sis, this tea makes you look younger and prettier, plus it helps with bloating. Drink up."
I slowly snapped out of it and took another small sip. "Okay."
*****
Even though Nicole tried hard to restrain herself, she just couldn't hide the excitement bubbling up inside her.
She was clearly thrilled, and no matter how much she tried to keep it in, that joy just kept slipping out.
Maybe she was worried I'd catch on, so she cleared her throat and said, "Sis, I'm gonna go take a shower. Make sure you finish the tea, okay? It only works if you drink it all."
I smiled and nodded. "Got it, I'll finish it."
Nicole headed off to the bathroom, looking totally pleased with herself.
As soon as I heard the shower running, I rushed to the kitchen and poured the tea straight down the drain.
[Damn. Why did the side character just dump the sleepytime tea? Is she getting suspicious of the main girl now?]
[I doubt it, maybe she just can't stand the taste.]
[Chill, the summary already said the main girl is gonna take the wicked stepsis's place and meet the guy in real life. It's all set.]
[The main girl spent her whole last life groveling in the shadows for the male lead. Now she finally gets her wish, her sister's man becomes her own husband. Just thinking about it is wild, hehe...]
Exciting?
Wasn't that just totally immoral?
*****
To keep Nicole from getting suspicious, I poured myself half a glass of water before heading back to the living room.
Half an hour later, Nicole came out of the bathroom.
She shot a casual glance at my glass, and when she saw I'd refilled it, her smile got even brighter. Then she leaned in, all mysterious, and said, "Sis, I've got a secret to tell you."
I looked up at her, putting on my best curious face. "What secret?"
Nicole blushed and said, "Sis, I'm meeting my online crush in real life tomorrow. I'm only telling you, so don't tell Mom or Uncle, okay?"
I never told Nicole that I was meeting my online boyfriend in real life.
I knew exactly why she was telling me this, there were two reasons.
First, she was laying the groundwork for her future with the "male lead," making sure she wouldn't get caught.
Even if I ever got suspicious, she could always use this as an excuse to cover her tracks.
Second, she just loved making a fool out of me.
After all, flaunting how she snatched my boyfriend right in front of the fool she played, me, must have made her feel pretty damn proud of herself.
I put on a surprised face and gently reminded her, "I'm not gonna rain on your parade, but just be careful, okay?"
Nicole sat down and hugged my arm, acting all sweet and cutesy. "Don't worry, sis, I know what I'm doing. We're meeting in a public place, and I won't be alone with him, promise."
I nodded, looking relieved. "That's good to hear."
Nicole's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Sis, if he seems cool, I'll bring him to meet you first. Can you help me check him out?"
I smirked. Sure, no problem.
Nicole beamed with pride, shaking my arm enthusiastically. "You're the best, sis."
[The side character is so clueless, it's almost embarrassing. She's getting played and still helping the main girl count her money.]
[Well, that's exactly why she's stuck as the side character. I just love seeing the main girl toy with her like that, hehe.]
[But honestly, there's something weird about her. I can't quite put my finger on it, though.]
[The side character's actually pretty sharp. Could she have figured out what the main girl's up to?]
[Just keep watching, you'll see. Besides, the main girl isn't done yet, she's got more moves planned.]
Wait, what else has she got planned?
I wished they would spill the beans quickly.
After chatting for a bit, Nicole yawned and said, "Sis, I'm heading to bed. You should get some rest too, it's good for detoxing and keeping healthy."
I nodded. "Okay, goodnight."
Nicole took a few steps, then turned back. "Oh, and sis, I'm not using my old WeChat account anymore. Delete it and add my new one, okay?"
My eyes lit up.
I think I know what she's up to now.
"Sure."
*****
My online crush and I were both super careful about our privacy.
For the past six months, we hadn't shared a single personal detail, no names, nothing, just our genders and ages.
The comments said Nicole had snuck into my room while I was asleep, grabbed my phone, and copied every single chat I'd had with my boyfriend.
She'd already figured out our whole vibe, how we interacted and everything, just from reading those chats.
Her plan was, after meeting him in real life, to come up with some excuse for him to block and delete me, then seamlessly add her new account instead.
That way, she could pull off the identity swap without anyone noticing.
Gotta hand it to her, she really covered all the bases.
Thinking about this, I decided to pick a different dress for tomorrow's date.
I was originally going to wear a low-key, formal A-line dress.
But now, I decided to wear that body-hugging mermaid dress I really liked but never got to wear out.
I tried it on in front of the mirror, looked great, I was super satisfied. Then I took a few photos without showing my face.
