After a long moment, he shoved his chair back, got up, and stormed off without a word.

Watching the father-son meltdown put me in an excellent mood.

"Mr. Pearson, you really raised him well," I lounged lazily across the table, resting one hand on my head and giving him a thumbs-up with the other. "Truly heartwarming."

Brandon stared at me, eyes unreadable.

After a beat, he said quietly, "Sit up properly. Don't slouch at the table."

Was he addicted to playing Dad? Giving me lectures too?

I flipped him off. "Don't tell me what to do, old man."
