Chapter 2
Overwhelmed with emotion, I bolted out of the office in distress and sat by the entrance, tears streaming down my face.
Adalynn followed me out. "Eileen, what's wrong?" she asked, offering me a tissue. "Here, wipe your tears..."
She hadn't finished her sentence when her phone rang. The caller ID displayed "Husband."
Seeing who it was, a smile immediately spread across her face. She answered the call. "Adalynn, I've sent a driver to pick you up," said a deep, sophisticated male voice. It was Maxwell's voice—my husband.
"Okay, I'll be right down," she replied before ending the call.
After saying goodbye, Adalynn left. The tissue she gave me was now clenched in my fist, my nails pressing into it and leaving marks on my palm.
That's when I detected a light, fragrant scent, realizing it came from the tissue. It smelled of lavender—Maxwell's preferred fragrance for everything.
