Chapter 5

The door was left slightly ajar, as if waiting for someone.

I paid the driver and got out of the car.

As my feet touched the cobblestone path, it hit me that I hadn't walked this way in years.

This was the manor of my family.

My home, at least in name.

The courtyard was quiet, with only the soft sweeping of a broom echoing through the air.

A middle-aged man stood beneath a tree, dressed in a dark suit, his back perfectly straight.

He turned when he heard my footsteps approaching.

"Sir," he greeted me.
