Chapter 1
Hanley Watts was the most handsome student at Autumn University, and the son of the wealthiest man in the city of Terlands.
I was a crazy simp for him.
I juggled three jobs just to buy breakfast for him and his girlfriend.
Every day, I would be up before sunrise to do his schoolwork for him diligently.
Friends had warned me not to waste myself on someone who would never give me any attention. I never listened to them.
On Christmas Eve, his childhood sweetheart smashed a cake into my face as midnight arrived.
I striked back calmly and said with a smile, “Merry Christmas. The game is over.”
At midnight, I received a call from Hanley Watts. He asked me to go to the Sia Hotel
He forgot to bring his tools, so he asked me to get them for him.
Without a word, I quickly got dressed and bought everything.
I stood outside the hotel room, and after a long while, I plucked up the courage to knock on the door.
The one who opened the door was the most beautiful girl in business school, Raven Steele. She looked at me and snorted coldly, lowered her voice, and mocked, "Gloria, you are so poor. How dare you pursue Mr. Watts?
"Look at you now, what's the difference between you and a pet?"
I didn't say a word, nor did I retort. I had grown tired of hearing this.
"Who is it?" Hanley's voice came from inside.
Raven calmly said, "It's just a hotel staff member."
After saying that, she closed the door and left without looking at me.
I rubbed my frozen hands and glanced at my phone.
It was the early morning of the day before Christmas Eve.
I went to bed at almost three o'clock in the morning. As the alarm clock in the dormitory rang, I quickly struggled to get up and called Hanley.
When the call was hung up, I kept calling. Hanley seemed to know I wouldn't give up, and finally answered on the third try.
Hanley answered the phone and cursed, "Gloria, are you stupid? Don't fucking bother me at this time! A famous sandwich shop is opening tomorrow in the west side of the city. Go get some for us. Get vegetarian ones. Sophia doesn't like meat."
I hurriedly nodded. "I got it!"
Before I could finish, a charming voice chimed in, "Mr. Watts, I'm not Sophia."
The voice was charming to the bone, with a gasp. It was obvious what the two were doing.
"Hanley, you have a bad stomach. Remember to take medicine..." Before I could finish speaking, the phone was hung up.
I didn't care, and quickly packed up and prepared for my shift at the coffee shop.
My roommate stuck her head out and asked, "How can you put up with this? You are so poor that you are working three part-time jobs. Why would you spend money on Hanley?
"He is the heir of a wealthy family, and you are a girl from the project. Give up."
I smiled without saying a word, waved my hand, and went out.
That day was the day before Christmas Eve. Because of the postgraduate entrance examination, most students stayed on campus.
The famous sandwich shop was really crowded. I queued for two hours before I could get two sandwiches.
It took three subway transfers to get back to school.
When I went to the business academy to find Hanley, he was flirting with a woman in his arms.
She was not the same girl from last night.
My heart sank as I walked over.
Hanley caught a glimpse of me. Then, he hugged the woman in his arms tightly as he kissed her.
"Hanley, here are the vegetarian sandwiches you wanted." I walked up and handed the sandwiches to Hanley, lowering my head and not daring to look directly into Hanley's eyes.
Before Hanley could speak, the woman in his arms spoke up. "Mr. Watts, is this your little simp? She is quite attractive."
I didn't say a word or look up. Hanley took the sandwiches from my hand and said to the woman, "Baby, try it."
She said, "It's so good."
The voices of the two people kept coming into my ears. I finally couldn't help but look up, biting my lip as I looked at them.
"It's cold. I don't want to eat it." The woman feigned a delicate look and looked up at me, her eyes full of provocation.
Hanley took a bite of the sandwich, frowned, and asked me, "You only bought vegetarian sandwiches?"
I nodded.
Hanley suddenly stood up and poked me on the shoulder. "Gloria, she wants vegetarian ones, not me. Are you stupid?"
I stumbled back a few steps and apologized with a blank expression, "I'm sorry. I'll buy you some more tomorrow."
"Gloria, you can't use your brain to think before doing things? What a waste of time!" Hanley was angry.
My head went even lower.
My hands on both sides clenched into fists.
I kept telling myself that I had endured it for three years already. I couldn't fall short because of this.
"Mr. Watts, don't be angry!" The woman stood behind Hanley with her arms wrapped around her chest and threw the sandwiches into the trash can.
She said, "It's just a sandwich. Don't be angry because a peasant couldn't satisfy your needs."
As soon as she said this, Hanley and I both looked at her.
The woman was still looking me up and down with a contemptuous look, as if she were looking at a peasant.
"Get lost!" Hanley roared.
