Ethan looked at me, his lips twitching as if he wanted to say something.

But Anna had already reached out, sliding her fingers through his. He glanced down at their locked hands, then said, "Fine. Let's go. Stay close to me."

I stood there and watched him lead her away into the deeper darkness. Their hands, still tightly clasped, faded away under the dark red glow.
