Chapter 3

Marie paused and looked up at him. Her eyes didn't belong to someone in her seventies or eighties. They were sharp, frighteningly alert.

"I think so. I don't know about the first time. The second was yesterday. The third—" Martin hesitated. "It hasn't happened yet."

Marie set the knitting aside and wiped her hands. "Sit. Tell me everything from the beginning."

Martin laid it all out for her, from the text messages to the body at the morgue, and finally to Winona waking up this morning.

Marie remained silent for a long time. "Tell me your fiancée's birth date."

Martin…
