Chapter 1
After seven years of being possessed by someone else, I finally returned to my own body.
The system mistook me for a "player" and assigned me to win over my first love, Lucas Bennett, the boy I dated when I was eighteen.
That was when I found out he was the arch-villain of this world.
The first time I saw Lucas again, he nearly strangled me to death.
I was curled up on the floor, coughing until I couldn't breathe, when lines of comments floated in my mind.
[So many players tried this mission. The last player quit out of fear. Wonder how long this one lasts...]
[Even if Lucas's one true love showed up, she'd still fail.]
[This player doesn't even have a single defense item. Is she gonna die on day one?]

The system's voice rang out in my head.
I thought I was dreaming.
But the next second, it tutted and zapped me hard.
I snapped back to reality, sitting up in bed and looking around at the unfamiliar room, totally dazed.
The system said, "Host, please win over the villain Lucas. Once you finish the task, the system will grant you a promise."
I recognized the name and asked the system, puzzled, "Lucas? Lucas is the villain?"
The system replied, "Yes, Lucas is the official husband of this body.
"Host, you're right by his side; make the most of this chance."
With that, it logged off with a click.
I was even more confused.
Wait, wasn't Lucas my first love?
Back then, I was heading overseas for school, so we broke up on good terms.
How did I end up married to him?
And what was with all this talk about winning him over? And since when was he the villain?
Wasn't I just taking a quick nap after working late?
I pulled myself together and set out to look for Lucas.
Lucas now was a far cry from the boy I used to know.
Before I could even get close, his bodyguards swooped in, bundled me into a car, and sent me straight home.
All at once, the wild fire of frustration from suddenly waking up seven years in the future ignited inside me.
A wave of resentment hit me hard, spreading through my chest before I could even stop it.
As soon as my emotions took over, I snatched up my bag and headed straight to the bar.
The moment I poured myself a drink, the bar's booming music came to a screeching halt.
A squad of tall bodyguards in black suits strode over in perfect formation.
Before I could even process what was happening, a familiar figure caught my eye in an instant.
In that moment, it felt like my heart was punched hard.
The bittersweet sting almost made me cry.
But the very next second, a pair of strong hands ruthlessly wrapped around my neck.
I struggled to breathe, frantically clawing at Lucas's hand.
Lucas looked at me like I was nothing but a corpse.
Lucas said coldly, "Didn't I warn you not to cause trouble?"
I looked at him, lost and hurting.
For a moment, his gaze wavered, but the coldness quickly returned.
He released his grip on my neck, sighing softly.
With a cold, almost bored tone, Lucas said, "So, another newbie, huh?"
I held my throat, curling up on the floor as I coughed so hard it felt like my chest was on fire.
Suddenly, a stream of floating comments started scrolling across my vision.
[The villain's going crazy again and again and again; feels like he's about to wipe out the world.]
[After seven years, Emily's body must have been took controlled by countless souls now, right?]
[Is this the thirtieth? Or the hundredth player? How many people have tried this already?]
[Wow, looks like this is a new player. She almost choked to death on her first day. Poor thing.]
[I bet this player won't even make it a month. The last one barely lasted two weeks before she bolted.]
I just stared, dumbfounded, at the barrage of comments right in front of me.
My mind went totally blank for a moment.
So, for the past seven years, my body was used to marry Lucas.
And it wasn't just one person; hundreds of transmigrators had taken turns hijacking my body, all for the sole purpose of conquering the so-called villain, Lucas.
