Chapter 3

After the Carter family left, Mrs. Bennett threw a fit at Mr. Bennett.

It was all because he'd held her back and wouldn't let her stand up for me earlier.

Mr. Bennett said earnestly, "Sophie's got to go through this herself sooner or later. None of us can do it for her. If she sees things for what they are now, she can finally have a new beginning."

"Stop using your management tricks on Sophie!" Mrs. Bennett snapped, clearly pissed off.

Mrs. Bennett wasn't having any of Mr. Bennett's so-called tests. She grabbed my hand and marched upstairs, still fuming.
