Chapter 4
Chelsey
Ten minutes.
No response.
I smirked.
"Reid Mason, get ready to be on publication."
I threw the phone on the bed. Went offline. Pulled off my stockings.
*
The next morning, I pushed out of bed to get breakfast.
Jamie was lost on her phone screen.
"That milk is boiling over!" I called.
"Girl, it might as well burn," she said, running up the stairs to meet me.
"Did you text Mason?"
"Yeah. Of course. He got my diary. He should fucking return it."
I took a step down.
"Did you confirm what you wrote?"
The sassiness under her tone.
I snatched her phone.
My message was screenshotted. Pinned on the school's general platform.
By him.
If I don't get my diary by tomorrow, the school will hear what WE did under the shower.
My eyes almost fell out at the WE.
I hurried back to my room. Picked up my phone. Checked the message.
It was truly a WE. Not YOU.
"Did you really… what happened—"
"Nothing happened!" I yelled.
My hands ran through my hair. I officially chose to be trending on the school blogs.
Numerous messages bombarded my inbox.
"Let's say it's a mistake. How do you solve it?" Jamie asked.
I was halfway down the stairs. Climbing back up in confusion.
My phone rang immediately.
I swiped to answer.
Ready to howl.
"Come to the cafeteria. Lunch time. Let's talk."
"Reid!"
He hung up before I could say a word.
I yelled my frustrations into the air.
"He's bossing me around. Cafeteria during lunch time? Isn't putting up my message enough?"
"Just go see him. Resolve this amicably," Jamie advised.
She ran downstairs to turn off the gas.
*
Lunchtime.
I walked in through the double door.
The gossips were everywhere.
Lingering.
I didn't need more.
I walked past booths. Their voices died down. Stepped up the moment I passed.
My eyes searched for that brown-haired, golden-eyed hockey captain.
A message dropped.
The last booth to your right!
I turned.
My eyes landed on his back.
Dressed in the Hawks jersey. Occupying the entire space alone. Holding up a can of beer.
His exclusive golden boy privilege. Drinking alcohol openly.
"Can I get it?" I asked. Hand stretched out.
"You want to go pants down here after that kind of message?"
He asked nonchalantly. A smirk on his lips. His eyes glowing with something unsettling.
"You are a psycho!" I cursed, adjusting my glasses.
He smiled. Arms spread on his chair. Legs crossed. Sipping cold beer like the world belonged to him.
"What do you want?" He asked. Eyes lazily watching me.
Finally.
The hot gaze of the students settled on me.
The cafeteria went dead silent. I could hear the hum of the vending machine. Trays clattering from the kitchen.
My legs turned to jelly.
I wasn't used to this kind of embarrassing attention.
"My diary. And our paths won't cross again!" I stuttered.
Pleading.
His eyes locked on mine.
"You didn't keep the deal," he said coldly.
"You took my stuff. I only asked for it. You crafted a scene about it on the school handle."
He smirked.
Gulped down more beer. His tongue running over his lips. His eyes settling on me like prey.
I fidgeted on my polo.
"You didn't send that to me. You sent it to Mason Clark. The assistant coach's son."
I blinked. "What? How?"
I tried pulling out my phone.
"Don't feign ignorance!" He yelled.
His fist struck the table. My body jolted.
"You couldn't keep it. You wanted someone to know as well. My rival!" He growled.
My heart pounded so hard I coughed.
Panting.
Nudging my glasses back in place.
"No, it was your username," I whispered faintly. Tears threatening to slip.
His eyes met mine for a second.
Then he looked away.
His fingers tapped on the armrest.
His gaze softened.
"He's Mason Ice. I'm just Mason. I changed the name after he tried using the same identity as mine."
My stomach dropped.
Clark had been impersonating Reid.
"How long?" I whispered.
