Chapter 1
I didn't know how, but I woke up inside a ridiculous romance novel as its doomed heroine, Iris Warner.
The male lead, Aaron Gates, was forcing me to donate a kidney to a girl he was close to.
I looked up at his strikingly handsome face, my every nerve alight with desire.
Then I smirked. "Sure, but you'll have to spend the night with me first."
Aaron looked at me in shock. "What did you just say?"
I casually wiped the drool off my mouth and repeated it, slow and clear.
I explained, "Look, I'm only twenty-five. Who knows what my sex life is gonna look like with one kidney gone? Of course, I should enjoy it while I can."
Aaron snapped, "Iris. Joan could die any minute. She even asked me not to come bother you. And all you can think about is this filthy crap, huh?"
Filthy? I didn't see it that way.
Besides, I'd known all along that Joan Holman was just pretending to be sick.
This world was straight out of a romance novel. Aaron was the male lead, I was the female lead, and Joan was the vicious second female character.
Thanks to her, Aaron forced me to give up a kidney.
Later, because of her schemes, "I" lost my child and my womb, and only then left the country in despair.
Then, when the truth finally came out, Aaron went through hell trying to win me back, and I took him back like I'd lost my memory or something.
Seriously, what kind of messed-up plot was this?
I must have cursed the author hundreds of times while reading it, only to wake up inside the story as the emotionally and physically tortured female lead.
The plot was a dramatic mess, but honestly, the male lead was drop-dead gorgeous.
I wanted to sleep with him badly.
Ignoring the look of disgust in Aaron's eyes, I boldly reached for his chest. "Cut the crap. Yes or no?"
Aaron angrily shoved my hand away, looking absolutely disgusted. "Nine tonight. I'll come by."
Before he could walk out, I yelled after him, "Bring a bunch of condoms. And don't forget your meds."
My voice echoed down the hall, and Aaron shot me a glare over his shoulder.
As soon as Aaron left, I grabbed my phone and called Oliver Barnett.
He was the second male lead in the story, always there to rescue the heroine whenever she was in trouble. If anyone could help me escape, it was him.
"Where are you? I'll come get you now," Oliver said, worry clear in his voice.
"Maybe later," I replied.
I still had a big fight coming up tonight, and since I was the one who started it, there was no way I was running away now.
I'd just finished packing up my valuables in the evening when Aaron showed up.
He flopped onto the bed. "Hurry up. Don't waste my time."
He'd showered and sprayed on cologne before he got here.
Well, he was pretty smart.
I went all in right away.
At two in the morning, he leaned weakly against the headboard, rubbing his waist.
I fidgeted with his long, pale, strong fingers, thinking way too much about how they could make me happy.
However, then I remembered all that messed-up drama with the kidney, the baby, and my womb, and suddenly, he didn't seem so irresistible anymore.
"Here, have some water," I said, handing him the glass I'd set out earlier.
Aaron looked at me blankly and downed the water in one shot.
Once he collapsed into a deep sleep, I called Oliver. "Come get me."
Screw donating a kidney. Whoever wanted to be this tortured heroine could go ahead. I was out.
Oliver showed up in no time, and I was overjoyed.
He had those slightly upturned eyes, smooth skin, and sharp features behind his glasses. He just gave off this calm energy that made me feel instantly at ease.
He had totally won me over.
When he saw how awkwardly I climbed into the car, he asked, concern written all over his face, "What happened to you?"
"He hit me," I said, putting on my most pathetic look. "Yeah, this time, I'm actually leaving him."
Oliver didn't question it for a second. He settled me into a secluded villa on the outskirts of the city.
"No one knows about this place. Just settle in and don't worry about a thing," he said.
I looked at him softly, a hint of playfulness in my eyes. "Will you stay?"
He hesitated, uncertainty flickering across his face.
"This villa is so big. It's kinda scary," I said, acting all helpless.
"Okay, I guess," he said, finally giving in.
Compared to Aaron, who easily lost his temper, Oliver was gentle and refined, incredibly easy to deal with.
He found two maids to take care of me, went off to work during the day, and hurried back every night just to be with me.
However, Oliver was way too decent. I tried dropping hints, but he never crossed the line.
Given how well he spoiled me, I let it slide.
After a month of living the good life, I'd gained some weight. Finally, I decided to take a walk outside.
I never thought I'd come back and bump into someone I never expected to see at the villa.
