Chapter 2
Less than half an hour later, my phone rang. It was Margaret's driver. "Mrs. Nina Johnson, we're downstairs at Ms. White's place. Mrs. Margaret Johnson wants you to come down."
I changed clothes and slowly walked downstairs. A black Mercedes was parked by the curb, with two more cars behind it.
Margaret sat in the back seat, her face livid. She looked at me with a complicated expression. "Get in."
I opened the door and got in. "Margaret, what are you going to do?"
She snorted, her eyes flashing with cold fury. "If anyone dares lay a finger on my grandson, I'll bury her whole family with him."
The car glided silently into the neighborhood. At Vivian's apartment building, Margaret waved her hand. Several bodyguards in black suits immediately got out of the cars behind us.
"Go up there and break the door down," Margaret demanded.
The bodyguards said, "Yes, Madam."
We stormed into the elevator like an army. The elevator doors opened right in front of Vivian's apartment.
The bodyguards didn't bother knocking. They stepped back and slammed their shoulders into the door.
With a loud crash, the lock shattered. The door swung inward, revealing the panicked pair inside. Justin and Vivian were hugging, still in matching pajamas.
When they saw us, their faces drained of all color.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Justin instinctively shielded Vivian behind him.
Vivian looked terrified, clinging to Justin's arm, shaking. "Mrs. Johnson, Nina, let me explain."
Margaret didn't glance at Vivian. Her sharp eyes locked onto her son. "Justin, get over here."
Justin said, "Mom, let's talk calmly. Don't scare Vivian. She is pregnant."
Margaret lunged forward and slapped Justin hard across the face. The sharp sound rang out in the room. "You bastard. You know Vivian is pregnant? So the baby Nina is carrying isn't yours?"
Justin was stunned. He clutched his face and stared at his mother in disbelief.
Vivian screamed and threw herself in front of Justin. "Mrs. Johnson, don't hit Justin. It's all my fault."
She sobbed, tears streaming down her face. She looked pitiful. "I love Justin so much. I can't live without him."
I stood at the door, coldly watching the farce.
Only then did I step inside. I walked toward them, step by step.
Vivian saw me, her eyes flashing with spite. "Nina, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that."
I ignored her and looked at Justin. "Justin, you're protecting Vivian? Then tell me. Which doctor issued that deformity report at the hospital today?"
He avoided my gaze, stammering. "I-It was Dr. Warren from the OB department."
"Really?" I pulled out my phone, opened the Instagram feed screenshot, and held it up to Justin and Margaret.
"He finally got rid of the burden for our baby." I read it out, word by word. "Justin, tell me. Who's the burden? Is my unborn baby the so-called burden Vivian and you were talking about?"
Margaret's gaze sliced through Justin and Vivian. Her chest was violently heaving. She was clearly furious to the extreme.
Justin broke out in a cold sweat. "N-No, Nina, you've got it all wrong. Vivian posted that without thinking."
Vivian shook her head right away, sobbing. "Yeah, Nina, I was so happy that I talked nonsense. Don't take it seriously."
"Nonsense?" I let out a cold laugh. "So that fake deformity report was nonsense too?"
That line hit like a bomb in the room.
Justin and Vivian's faces went ghostly pale instantly.
Margaret whipped her head around, locking her eyes on me. "Nina, what did you say? The report is fake?"
I met her gaze, my eyes steady. "Let's go to the hospital right now and have the best specialist check again to see if it's fake. If my baby's healthy, how are we going to settle this today?"
