Chapter 1
I once saved a rogue who turned out to be the famous Alpha heir of the Morton Pack. I patched him up, helped him recover, and even walked him through piecing his memories back together.
But when he remembered who he was, he accused me of stealing the keepsake his childhood sweetheart had given him.
I denied it.
He had his pack members break every finger on my right hand. A healer needed steady hands, so I'd never work as a healer again. Then he paid off some of my old patients to spread rumors and destroy what was left of my reputation.
Cornered and desperate, I went to the rooftop, ready to jump.
That was when the Alpha of the Manning Pack and his Luna found me. They were crying. They said, "We finally found you."

The day I found Ethan, it was snowing hard. He was barely dressed, and two rogues were beating him up. He looked like a lost puppy, curled under a flower bed with his arms over his head, too scared to move.
I chased the rogues off and handed him a cup of hot milk. I told him about a pack shelter not far away where he could stay through the winter.
He looked up at me with these striking eyes, and even though I'd seen more than my share of pain in this line of work, something about him made my heart soften.
So I took him in.
His hand was broken, and I set it.
He couldn't remember anything about his past, so I helped him slowly put the pieces back together.
I spent a year looking after him and found him a job. Then one day, he disappeared without a word.
The next time I heard about him, he'd become Ethan, the famous Alpha heir of the Morton Pack.
Ethan was illegitimate, but the Morton Pack didn't have many heirs. The only one who ever appeared in public was a sickly young man who supposedly wouldn't live past twenty-five. That made Ethan the likely sole inheritor.
When he returned, it made headlines.
A few days later, the Morton Pack made it official in the media, confirming Ethan as their Alpha heir.
When I saw it on the news, I didn't feel anything at all. After all, we were from different worlds.
He left cold, no goodbye, and that said everything. He didn't want anyone to know what he'd gone through after losing his memory.
When I thought I'd never see him again, he showed up at my door in a luxury car. "Give back what you stole," he said, without greetings.
I was stunned. When I found him, he didn't have a penny to his name. I bought him clothes and shoes. Now he was rich and calling me a thief. How ungrateful.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Don't play dumb." His voice was harsh as he closed in on me, his eyes cold and unfeeling.
I narrowed my eyes. "If you came here to make a scene, leave now."
Ethan stopped right in front of me, grabbed me by the neck, his eyes burning with rage. "How much do you want? Give me back what you took, and I'll give you one million. Is that enough?" Ethan snarled.
I was gasping for air. Without thinking, I kicked him right in the groin.
He let out a sharp hiss and finally let go of me.
I backed away and shouted, "Have you lost your mind? You didn't have two nickels to rub together back then. What could I possibly have taken from you? That empty head of yours?"
Then I went straight to the pack enforcers.
Ethan's face went red and then pale. He got in his car and drove off.
The enforcers couldn't do anything. I lived in an old building with no cameras. Even if someone had seen his car at the gate, who would believe the Alpha heir of the Morton Pack came to see me? They'd say I was making it up.
A few days later, a man claiming to be Ethan's Beta came to my door. He was polite, but his eyes had that superior look. He handed me a check.
I glanced at it. There were more zeros than I could count.
"This is half a million," he said. "Please return the moonstone. It's worth less than ten thousand dollars, but it's incredibly important to Ethan. We'd be grateful if you'd hand back what you took."
