Chapter 3
Over time, I found myself drawn to his authentic and down-to-earth nature.
He’d often flush and murmur, 'I just want to do right by you.'
So, we mated, formed a bond, and had a child.
I knew he took pride in being the Alpha of the Watson Pack.
Quietly, behind the scenes, I supported him.
With my help, he revived the nearly disbanded Watson Pack, restoring its prestige among the Lycan elite.
But after his success, he was rarely home.
I urged him to spend more time with our child. Yet, the man who once vowed never to look down on ordinary wolves now scoffed and retorted:
'What do you, a Luna, understand? An Alpha’s duty is to lead the pack. Where would I find time to waste with you? Without my hard work, neither you nor our son would enjoy such a comfortable life.'
His transformation left me increasingly disenchanted.
Still, I felt a shred of gratitude toward him.
He provided strong genes, enabling me to raise a bright and exceptional son.
All I wanted was to be there for my son and nurture him well.
So, I endured everything he did.
Little did I know, this tolerance would lead him to secretly impregnate his secretary.
And ultimately, it led to the death of our son.
Jace’s passing severed any remaining ties I had to this pack.
And my love for Makai Watson vanished entirely.
Lost in thought, I carried my son’s urn into the Watson Pack’s celebration hall.
Inside, the Lycan elite and influential Alphas mingled.
They were there to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Watson Pack’s revival.
Makai stood tall among the crowd, sharp in his tailored suit, radiating the commanding presence of an Alpha.
Leslie Burke clung to his arm, draped in an elaborate Victorian-style gown.
I entered expressionlessly, and as I approached, I overheard Leslie pout with feigned innocence:
'Alpha Makai, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault that your mate wants to reject the bond.'
Makai lightly tapped her nose as though she were fragile:
'Silly girl, I’m the Alpha of the Watson Pack, and Amber is bound to me. How could she possibly reject the bond? It’s all just melodrama—no need to fret.'
As soon as those words left his lips, his gaze locked onto me.
The warmth in his eyes turned frosty:
'Amber, didn’t I tell you today is the Watson Pack’s anniversary celebration? You had to bring our son!'
'And you came alone!'
Upon seeing me, the gathered Lycans snickered and jeered:
'Is that the Luna? She looks like she just crawled out of a rogue pack—totally out of place.'
'She’s just a Luna stuck at home with the pup. Naturally, she can’t compare to us in the Lycan elite.'
'Is it any wonder the Alpha favors his secretary? With her plain appearance, she’s hardly a match for him.'
Their mockery prompted a smug smile from Leslie.
The next moment, she feigned remorse as she addressed me:
'Luna Amber, it’s my fault for getting pregnant and causing tension between you and the Alpha.'
'If you truly resent me, just say so, but don’t refuse to bring young Jace here and dress in black.'
'You know today is the Watson Pack celebration, and all the elite are here. You’re just trying to humiliate the pack and put the Alpha in an awkward position...'
Leslie’s false sincerity earned a flicker of approval in Makai’s eyes.
It also garnered nods of agreement from the Lycans present.
But I met her gaze with indifference and replied coldly, 'If you enjoy being the mistress of a dishonorable Alpha, that’s your business.'
