Chapter 6

After Lady Sophia's threats still rang in my ears, a guard grabbed my arm and pulled me down a long hallway. The head slave walked ahead of us, her back straight as a rod. She looked mean, with gray hair pulled so tight it made her face scary.

We stopped at a big wooden door. "In here," the head slave barked. "Your new workplace."

The guard pushed me inside and the door slammed shut. My legs felt like jelly. I slid down the cold wall and hugged myself, trying not to cry. The room was huge but so dark I…
