Chapter 4
Arthur turned back to me, his gaze turning vicious, "How dare you curse her!"
He hesitated no longer and plunged the dagger into my chest.
The pure silver blade cut into my skin, and the nerve paralytic magnified the pain tenfold.
My whole body convulsed from the pain, but I could not make a sound.
Arthur gripped the handle and dragged the blade downward.
Blood gushed out and splattered across his face.
He did not care. He reached into the wound.
"Found it." His fingers touched my pulsing wolf core.
"No..." I looked at him in despair.
Arthur's fingers tightened sharply.
He was about to tear my wolf core out by force.
Just then, a shrill alarm came from Dr. Vance's case.
The alarm echoed through the entire dungeon.
Dr. Vance spun around and looked at the vital signs monitor inside his case, "Stop, Arthur!
"Her heart rate is dropping fast, and her blood pressure is barely detectable.
"If you force the wolf core out in this condition, the core will die immediately!"
Arthur's fingers remained inside my chest.
He cursed in irritation, "Then give her a stimulant!
"No matter what, that wolf core comes out today!"
Dr. Vance frantically rummaged through the case for medication.
Annabelle sat in the chair and urged them on impatiently, "Hurry up, Arthur. I really can't hold on much longer."
As she spoke, she leisurely admired her freshly done nails.
The stimulant was shoved roughly into my vein.
My heart was shocked into pounding wildly.
Blood flowed faster from the wound.
My life was draining away at terrifying speed.
My consciousness began to blur.
Arthur and Annabelle twisted into monsters in my fading vision.
"Now!" Dr. Vance shouted as he watched the monitor.
Arthur tightened his grip on my wolf core again.
"Endure it. This will be over soon." He yanked outward with all his strength.
"Aah!" A shrill scream tore from my throat.
The agony felt like my soul was being ripped apart, and I wanted nothing more than to die.
The wolf core had been pulled halfway out.
Blue light flickered in the dim dungeon.
"It really is a high-grade wolf core," Annabelle sprang to her feet in excitement, completely forgetting she was supposed to be sick.
"Arthur, give it to me!" She added.
A cruel smile spread across Arthur's face.
He prepared to finish the extraction.
My wolf spirit let out one last despairing cry and went completely still.
The world fell into dead silence.
I was ready to meet death.
A deafening crash came from above.
The entire dungeon shook violently.
Dust and chunks of stone rained from the ceiling.
"What's going on?" Arthur turned pale with shock and released my wolf core.
Another massive crash followed.
The dungeon's heavy iron door was blasted off its hinges by a terrifying force.
The heavy iron door slammed into the wall and shattered.
The stench of gunsmoke and blood flooded the dungeon.
A tall black shadow stepped in over rubble and bodies.
In his hand, he carried a severed head still dripping blood.
It belonged to the Manhan gang's head of security.
Kane tossed the head at Arthur's feet.
He lifted his head, his handsome face spattered with blood.
His eyes locked on me as I hung in midair, my chest cut open.
The air around us dropped to freezing.
Kane crushed the pure silver dagger under his boot.
He said, "I warned you.
"Anyone who touches a hair on her head dies with the entire Manhan gang."
