I woke to the sound of raised voices outside my door. My body still ached from the night before, the silver power that had surged through me leaving me feeling hollow yet strangely stronger. I pushed myself up from the small bed in the medical wing, wincing as my muscles protested.

"—have no right to be here." Zane's voice was dangerously low, vibrating with barely contained rage.

"I have every right to check on a friend," Ethan replied, his tone calm but firm. "She's been through enough without you hovering over her like a predator."
