Chapter 4

I reached out carefully to pick up the Moonsilver.

Suddenly, the ice beneath my feet split open.

I plunged downward, and by instinct, I grabbed onto a jutting rock.

Chunks of ice and stone tumbled noisily past me, dropping into the abyss below. It felt like forever before I finally heard their distant, muffled thud.

I was dangling from the cliff, one hand gripping the rock, the other clinging desperately to the Moonsilver.

The wind rushed into my mouth and nose. I felt my warmth draining away, my fingers numb and ready to let go at any moment.
