Chapter 4

Something crashed to the floor behind me.

I didn't bother to look back.

As I stepped out of the office, I noticed several people in the hallway staring at me.

Word had spread fast.

Jackson caught up to me.

"Lucas, Pinnacle? Are you serious?" he asked.

"Yeah, for real," I replied.

"Chief Architect? What's the paycheck like?"

"Enough to keep me comfortable."

Jackson clapped me on the shoulder.

"You should've left ages ago, Lucas," he said.

I smiled.

Yes, I should've left ages ago.

That afternoon, I packed up my desk.

Three years, and it all fit into one box.
