The furious roar cracked through the house like thunder.

It was Dad.

He had moved silently. He was already standing at the entrance to the kitchen. His face was devoid of expression, but his eyes were locked onto the vial in Cole’s hand with lethal intensity.

The chatter in the dining room shattered instantly. Everyone turned to look.

Mom was the first to sprint over. When she saw what was in Cole’s hand, all the blood drained from her face.
