Chapter 4
Rosalie stared at me, practically trembling, terrified I might actually agree with Julian's offer.
Jacob was watching me too, his eyes full of earnest pleading.
Everyone's gaze was fixed on me. I remembered the torment of being pregnant with a pure-blood Alpha in my past life, and then thought about these past few days with Jacob. He wasn't anything like the savage Rosalie claimed.
Instead, he was witty, gentle, and treated me with genuine care.
I could tell he wasn't pretending. After being Luna in my last life, I'd dealt with all sorts of pretenders and liars.
I bowed to Julian, and when I saw Rosalie's face drop, I felt a little thrill inside. "Thanks for the offer, Your Highness. But in our pack, it's the biggest taboo for sisters to share a husband. Besides, Jacob treats me well. I know he's not some savage."
Rosalie hurried to add, "Yeah, totally! I just saw how huge Jacob is and jumped to conclusions. That was on me."
Julian's expression chilled, not just because I rejected him, but also because of Rosalie's words.
The Redsun Pack always acted like they were royalty, proud and untouchable. Rosalie was supposed to be his Luna, and hearing her say something so tactless made Julian feel humiliated.
Julian didn't say anything. He simply had his attendant bring over a moonstone necklace. Rosalie's eyes lit up the moment she saw the rare moonstone gems.
Julian brushed past Rosalie and spoke directly to me. "Clara, I respect your choice. This necklace is a wedding present from me."
Rosalie quickly interrupted him, sounding urgent. "Your Highness, Jacob and our pack will handle Clara's wedding gifts. You don't have to worry about it. Besides, she's not marrying into some prestigious family. She doesn't need something so valuable."
Julian's gaze turned icy. In my past life, I'd spent years by his side, so I knew him inside out.
Julian hated being rejected, and he couldn't stand Rosalie's small-mindedness, especially when she belittled me. It wasn't because he was drawn to my looks; he simply despised people who turned their backs on their own blood.
But even if he regretted it now, it was too late. He and Rosalie had already made their vows before the Lunar Deity and became mates. Unless Rosalie messed up big time, he couldn't call it off.
I ignored Rosalie's pointed look and accepted the necklace. "Thank you for your blessing, Your Highness. With your blessing, Jacob and I will be even happier together."
A flicker of wistfulness flashed in Julian's eyes when he saw how poised I was. Then, he led Rosalie away.
I could still hear Rosalie muttering, "Your Highness, don't let Clara's fawning fool you. She only flatters the riches..."
I could easily picture how stormy Julian's expression must be right now.
Werewolves were known for loving fiercely and hating just as hard, let alone Julian. He was a stickler for rules. Otherwise, he wouldn't have married someone from an ordinary background, simply out of gratitude for saving his life.
But he never tolerated anyone questioning his judgment, and tonight, every word Rosalie said pressed all his buttons.
I smiled and glanced at Jacob. He rubbed his hands together, his voice gruff but genuine. "I'll take good care of you, I promise."
I had no reason to doubt him. The time we'd spent together had given me a real understanding of who he was.
Still, I couldn't help but wonder how Rosalie ended up being cast aside by him in my last life.
Only Rosalie knew the real story. I was a little curious, but honestly, it was none of my business anymore.
