Chapter 4
"What can I get you to drink?" she asked after we sat down.
Damian looked at me waiting for me to answer.
"Um, can I have some green tea."
"Cold or hot?"
"Hot please," I said, she nodded writing my order, "No problem, and for you Sir."
"I'll have some black coffee with no sugar."
"Do you know what you want to order or shall I come back in five minutes?"
"I'll have some buttermilk pancakes, two sausages, scrambled eggs, and a fresh squeezed orange juice." Damian ordered, almost like he came here every day.
"Um," I quickly looked over the menu, "I'll just have some waffles with strawberries on top."
"Is that all?"
We both nodded.
"Alright, so one black coffee, hot green tea, orange juice, waffles with strawberries on top, buttermilk pancakes, two sausages, and scrambled eggs."
"Correct." Dam said and the girl walked away towards the kitchen.
"So how old are you Lena?" he asked placing his elbows on the table looking into my eyes, making sure I won't lie.
"I'm 22, you?"
"I just turned 26 a couple of weeks ago, I thought you would be 20."
"Um, thanks?" I said, taking that as a compliment.
"You're welcome," he chuckles scratching his head with his left arm.
His gesture was so hot, I can't believe that some guys don't realize how good they look doing that.
"So are you and Andre good friends?" I asked playing with a white napkin and folding it into different shapes.
"Yeah, we were friends before we could even walk.
Our moms are best friends, so that's how we got into this friendship."
I nodded my head, "Oh cool."
"So do you live alone or with your boyfriend?"
I smiled, "I live alone.
No boyfriend what's so ever."
"Where are your parents?"
"They're traveling the world, they've been doing that since I was about 18 years old."
"Why didn't you go with them?"
"Someone had to take care of the house, plus I'm not that close with them.
My mom's dream was to travel the world so I let her have it." I smiled watching the waitress come back with our food.
"Hope you guys like it." she said.
I grabbed a fork with a knife and started to cut a piece off of my big waffle, while Damian started to eat his eggs and sausages.
"My parents traveled before they had me, and I guess when they were done they had me." he said grabbing a bite.
"Are you close with your parents?"
"I'm really close with my dad, my mom not so much, " he chuckled, "probably because she's a woman.
Not being sexist or anything but me and her see everything in a different way."
"I see, do you have any brothers or sisters?" I asked.
"Nope, I'm the only child."
"Same."
"So, why did you leave in the morning?" he asked raising his eyebrows.
"I was just tired, I'm not used to sleeping in someone's place.
I like my bed much better."
He nodded his head hopefully understanding my pathetic excuse.
After we quietly ate Damian would look at me when I would grab each strawberry and place it into my mouth.
His eyes would get darker and would make me a little bit nervous.
I would ignore the feeling and enjoy my strawberries that I was completely obsessed with.
When we were done Dam paid the bill and left a 10 dollar tip inside of the black book where the check was.
When we stepped outside again some guys waved at Dam and he gave them a nod with his head.
"So were to next?" he asked
"Well, can you take me back to my car.
I'm kind of tired now since I'm fully."
He chuckled again, "Sure.
Let's go."
When we arrived at the parking lot behind the bar he walked me towards me car and opened the door for me.
As I stood up almost sitting down he said, "Hey, Lena.
I was wondering if I could get your phone number?"
I did a fake cough, "Um, maybe some other time?"
I'm not playing hard to get or anything.
I just don't feel safe giving a gang leader my phone number, who knows maybe he would get one of his computer people and track me wherever I go.
He looked disappointed when I said that, "I guess you don't trust me."
"I'm sor-"
He put his hand up, "No, it's fine Lena.
I totally understand.
Have a safe drive home.
I'll see you tonight at the bar?"
"Sorry.
I don't work tonight."
"Oh alright.
When is your next day of work?"
"To tell you the truth I don't remember.
I have to check my schedule that is at my work.
It changes all the time.
Maybe in a couple of days.
I might see you around the streets since you're in a gang and stuff." I laughed.
I saw a tint or red on his cheeks, "I guess.
Be safe love." He closed the door and I clicked my seatbelt.
Lena P.O.V.
Finally I'm having a day off, working at night can really get to you.
I've noticed that around 3 a.m. my body is at it's worst, I would feel a lot more colder.
It's physically demanding to try to stay up all night.
You are tired during the day and tired during the night.
As I got older, I found it even more difficult to stay awake.
By the time you get to the Monday, you're a zombie.
You forget appointment, you have to write everything down.
The quieter nights at the bar were harder.
Usually the first day I'm off from work I have what I call a Rest Day.
A day were I sit at home wearing some pajama pants and a large t-shirt with paint stains on it.
My hair is in a messy bun with a few strands falling out around my face.
And no make-up.
The whole day I was slowly cleaning everything in my house with some music on.
Once I was done I decided to call my mom because i haven't spoke to her in over a week.
I searched her name in my small contact list and called her, "Hello?" her sweet voice said over the phone.
"Hello?
Hey mom it's Lena."
"Oh hellp honey," she said surprised, as I heard some glass bottles ding in the background.
"Did you forget about me already?" I chuckled softly.
"Of course not.
I just picked up my phone without looking at the call ID.
How are you?
Everything ok?"
"Everything is fine mom, were are you right now?"
"Me and you dad are in Lunaria right now.
It's our third day here.
We might stay here for another week.
The wine here tastes amazing."
"I-um.
I want to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"I actually found a job?"
She gasped,"Lena, are we not sending you enough money?"
"I have enough money mom, it's just boring sometimes to just sit at home all day."
"Where do you work at?"
"Bartender." I whispered.
"What?
Couldn't hear you." she said a bit louder.
"A bartender mom."
She gasped again and I imagined her holding her hand against her mouth, "Lena no. That's a dangerous job.
Do you know how many creeps there are at the bar?
Especially the town you're at.
We both know that there are gangs there."
"I know mom, but I'm fine.
The bodyguards are there just in case something happens.
In fact I've been working for over a year now.
It's fine."
"If anything happens to you I'm suing that place!
Understood?" she said in a motherly voice.
"Understood."
"Do you want me to send you anything?" she asked.
"Um," I said scratching my head under the bun, "Can you send me some Italian candy or something.
Or some chocolate."
She laughed, "Anything else?
Maybe a dress?"
"No I'm good.
Thanks though."
"Anytime, well I have to go.
Be safe, love you."
"Love you too." I smiled and ended the call.
My stomach grumbled as I entered the kitchen.
As I looked through the fridge I didn't find anything good to eat.
Maybe I should order some pizza.
Or maybe I should drive there since I'm in the mood for driving.
Plus, who doesn't like when a car smells like pizza?
I decided to put on my gray soccer sweats that I got when I was 15 from the school that I went to and I put a light pink lipbalm.
I didn't fix my hair or anything because I have no one to impress and it's already dark outside.
I jumped into my car and drove towards the pizza place that wasn't too far away from my place.
Luckily I had a free parking space not that far away from the door.
I jumped out of the car and walked toward the pizza place.
I heard a few people arguing but I decided to ignore it.
Plus even if they are in a gang I shouldn't interfere because you never know what could happen behind those walls.
