Chapter 1
My neighbor's kid choked on a Summer-Berry with Lemonade, and he was nearly turning blue.
I jumped in and did the Heimlich maneuver right away.
At last, I got the berries out of his throat, and the kid was safe again.
But afterwards, the kid's parents demanded compensation from me.
The mother complained, "It was just a little choking, but she ended up breaking my son's ribs.
"Medical bills plus rehab, that's 30 thousand dollars. Not a cent less.
"The doctor says broken ribs are tough to heal. I need you to give me an answer."
In the middle of our heated argument, they pushed me down the stairs, killed me right then and there.
Then, I opened my eyes and found myself back on the day my neighbor bought her son a Summer-Berry with Lemonade.
I was never into gaming, but this time, I spent the whole day gaming and voice chatting with my friends, headphones on.
*****
Someone was banging hard on my door.
My neighbor, Jane Males, was wailing outside, "Help! Priscilla, are you home? Please, save my son!"
Her voice was breaking, on the verge of tears.
I cranked up the game volume all the way.
I was going all out with my friends in the game.
My buddy online heard the commotion from his end.
He said, "Hey, what's that banging I hear from your place?"
I answered, "Nope, you're just imagining things."
I leisurely shopped for items, cranked up the volume, and kept bantering with my buddy.
I had zero intention of opening the door, cause I already knew what was up.
My neighbor Jane was the one banging on my door.
She was desperate.
Just a little while ago, everything changed for me.
I got a second shot at life.
Back in my previous life, I was sitting in the living room, watching TV.
Out of nowhere, there was frantic pounding on my door.
My neighbor started shouting from outside.
She cried, "Help! Priscilla, are you home? Please, save my son!"
I flung the door open in a hurry.
Right away, I saw Madden; his face was already bluish-purple.
Jane cried, "He took a sip of his drink, and then he suddenly started choking."
Madden was clutching his chest in agony, gasping for air.
I instantly realized Madden was suffocating from something lodged in his throat.
I scooped Madden up into my arms.
I gave him the Heimlich, thrusting into his abdomen with all my strength.
While I reassured Madden, telling him to stay with me, I shouted for Jane to call 911 right away.
Madden was only five, but he was built like a tank for his age, pushing 90 pounds.
His belly was all chub, layers and layers of it.
I really had to put my back into it.
Every second counted. One more second of choking meant one more second of danger.
I gritted my teeth, sweat streaming down my forehead.
His wild struggling left my hands all scratched and bleeding.
I shouted, "Spit it out, Madden. Come on, get it out!"
Finally, thanks to my persistence, with a loud gag, Madden spat out several huge berries from his throat.
Color rushed back to his face.
And right then, the sound of the ambulance siren filled the air.
Madden was saved.
Jane clung to Madden, who was bawling his eyes out, and couldn't stop thanking me.
I thought that was the end of it.
But I had no idea that was when the real nightmare began.
