It felt like Ronald was talking to Polly, not me.

He was flaunting it, acting like I was his trophy. 'See? She listens to me. She can't live without me,' as if that was the message he wanted Polly to hear.

Polly's lips curled into a barely noticeable smirk, and the contempt in her eyes grew even sharper.

I bet she saw me as nothing more than a woman who couldn't stand on her own, just a decorative vine clinging to Ronald, with no worth beyond being attached to a man.
