Chapter 5

While I still had the strength, I went back to the orphanage where I grew up.

The director—we all called her Mom—was getting old and frail.

The day I visited, her daughter had taken her to the hospital for an IV.

I didn't visit her.

I just bought some food and snacks for the kids at the orphanage.

Hidden away in a small town, this place had been around for 30 years, giving kids like me a real home.
