Chapter 2
Just as I sat down at home, there was a knock on the door.
William's mother, Linda Kemp, appeared at the door, holding my favorite lasagna.
But before she could speak, the TV suddenly turned on.
The content played was the scene of William entering the room with Martha, who was disheveled.
I stood there, unable to react for a moment.
Linda's eyes were red with anger, and she picked up the vase and smashed it at the TV.
Meanwhile, my phone received a voice provocation from Martha. [Anna, I'm sorry, I'm not feeling well, so Will stayed with me. We accidentally projected the screen onto your TV. Hope you won't mind.]
Her fake kindness and innocence were so obvious.
Linda breathed quickly and placed the lasagna heavily on the table. "This bastard. How dare he do this? After he comes back, I will kill him. Anna, don't worry, that bitch will never marry into the Kemp family without my permission.
"Will was probably bewitched by her for a while. After I teach her a good lesson, he will wake up."
Even though watching them make out, Linda could still say such biased words.
I raised the corners of my mouth slightly.
Linda had always put family background above everything when it came to marriage, not to mention that all shares of the Kemp family were now in my hands.
There was no way she would let Martha, who came from humble beginnings, into the Kemp family.
For her, my status could bring her son and the Kemp family to the next level.
She didn't dare to break her face with William, so she could only put all the pressure on Martha.
She pressured Martha's parents in an attempt to make Martha retreat.
But that only made Martha more set on William, and refuse to give up on him.
In my previous life, we couldn't keep William at bay, not even until Linda died.
Therefore, in this life, I would not stop Linda.
There was no way I was going to let Martha become a rich wife so easily.
If she wanted to marry into the Kemp family, she had to get Linda's permission.
That night, William knocked on my door. I thought he was here to incriminate me and accuse me.
Unexpectedly, as soon as I opened the door, he bowed to me and began to apologize, "I'm sorry, I made a mistake today. I didn't do it well and made you misunderstand.
"Actually, it's no big deal. Martha wasn't feeling well today, so I took her back to her room. We did nothing.
"Don't worry, I will remember my relationship with you and will not do anything out of line."
I almost believed his sincerity.
It was a pity that my eyes were sharp, and I had already seen the hickey hidden under his clothes.
But I didn't care anymore.
My love for him had long since disappeared under his repeated waste and belittling.
When he was young, he would coax me to take the blame for him when he made mistakes, and make me the "troublemaker" who was scolded by our parents.
After we grew up, I had to cover for him when he spent nights out or got low scores on exams.
Later, he played me like a fool again and again for Martha.
In my previous life, I was forced to be a "stepping stone" to their love.
But in this life, I didn't want to be a stepping stone anymore.
I didn't want to be that fool anymore.
"You don't have to explain anything. I understand." I waved my hand and tried to send him away, but he looked embarrassed.
"Can you let me in?" He tilted his head slightly, revealing Linda, who was poking around behind him.
I knew what was going on now.
As I expected, Linda forced him to come here to apologize to me.
After helping him so many times, I didn't mind one more time.
I moved aside to let William in.
As soon as he entered the door, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Don't worry, since we are engaged, I will definitely marry you. I promised to marry you when you graduate from college, and I will definitely do what I say.
"But I only have one request." He looked at me with a determined gaze. "I promise I won't have anything to do with Martha, but can you not target her?"
Hearing the words, I was stunned for a moment.
"It's her fault that Martha accidentally projected the screen into your house today, but if you didn't tell my mom, how would she know that—"
"Linda sent me lasagna." I pointed to the lunch box on the table.
This lunch box was used by William before it was eliminated, and I stopped it when it was supposed to be thrown away.
I thought this lunch box had been with him for a while, and if I continued to use it, it would be like forging another connection with him.
Now this lunch box turned into a loud slap on William's face.
William pursed his lips in embarrassment.
"You don't have to explain so much to me about Martha." I paused and looked at him seriously. "Don't worry, I will fulfill you."
William only thought I was still mad, so he said with a deep sense of helplessness in his eyes, "Stop being angry. "I will..." He took a deep breath, as if he had made up his mind. "I will keep my distance from Martha."
He looked like he had given up everything for me and suffered a great grievance, and it only made me feel irritable.
I said, "There's only one week left. If you bear with it, you don't have to—"
William interrupted me, "What do you mean by one week?"
This time, I really couldn't help laughing out loud.
It turned out that he couldn't even remember when our wedding day was.
"You'll know when the time comes." Then I push him out.
The world returned to peace.
