Arthur's POV

I pulled into the driveway at exactly 6:30 PM.

I had promised Nora I wouldn't be late tonight. The middle of October was always the hardest time of the year for her. I was glad the afternoon meetings had ended early enough for me to pick up dinner and keep her company.

I unlocked the front door. "Nora? I brought food."

Silence.

The house was completely dark. The air felt unusually cold, stripped of the vanilla scent she always burned in the evenings.
