By the fifth week, I got sick.

A fever, 102.6 degrees.

I lay in bed alone, delirious with fever. The baby kept moving, really active, as if feeling my pain.

I forced myself up, gulped down two big glasses of water, and bundled up to sweat it out.

But it didn't help. The fever got worse.

I started rambling, calling out for Mom, Michael, and Emily, but the room was empty.
