The elevator doors slid open, and Virginia stepped inside.

The doors closed behind her, and finally, it was quiet.

She headed to the hospital.

The line for picking up reports was ridiculously long. Virginia stood at the end, watching the crowd ahead—one person, then another, then another.

Her phone buzzed. It was her editor: "How's the manuscript going? Readers are begging for an update."

Virginia texted back: [I'll get it to you in a day or two.]

The line shuffled forward a little.
