Chapter 3

By ten o'clock, the office was completely dark.

The only light still on was the one above my desk.

My eyes kept darting between the screen and the papers, squinting at numbers so tiny they looked like specks of dust.

I had no idea how much time had passed.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my right eye.

I quickly pressed my palm against the bandage, feeling the warmth and wetness seep through my fingers.

Blood trickled down my cheek, dripping onto my shirt.

Right then, David walked out of his office, coat slung over his arm.
