Chapter 6

For the next few days, I went through the motions, like nothing was wrong.

Cooking, picking up the kids, doing laundry, helping with homework.

David came home right on time every day, collapsed onto the couch like clockwork.

Occasionally, he'd wash a dish or two.

Every now and then he'd throw out a "Thanks for all your hard work, babe."

I'd smile and play along.

Wednesday afternoon.

I knew he'd gone to Jessica's place again.

He claimed he had a sudden meeting at the office.

But his car was parked outside Jessica's building at 3:15.

He didn't leave until 6:40.
