At thirty thousand feet, when the plane began to shudder violently, I was staring out the window, lost in thought.

Outside, the clouds were stained blood-red by the setting sun, orange flames dancing along the wing like a brilliant blossom.

A faint smell of burning reached my nose.

Inside the cabin, people were screaming and sobbing in terror. Others squeezed their eyes shut and prayed.

I leaned back in my seat, debating whether to open the meal tray in front of me.

Of course, vampires weren't afraid of death.

And besides, I had already died once.
