Chapter 3
Ryan's parents gaped at the transaction history on his phone, taking way too long to process what they were seeing.
Mark exploded, voice shaking with fury. "You ungrateful little shit! Instead of thinking about your own family, you're obsessed with that homewrecking slut! All our money wasted on that shameless tramp!"
He swung out and slapped Ryan hard across the face, breathing heavily with rage.
"We sacrificed everything to send you to college!" he bellowed. "We thought you'd build a life here and bring us along for the ride! Not that you'd piss away our life savings on some gold-digging whore!"
Ryan just hung his head, mumbling apologies as his parents stormed out of the room. Only then did I step inside.
When he spotted me, his eyes went red and watery.
"Evie, I'm so sorry," he begged. "Liv spent all the money. She scammed me. I swear, I'm cutting her off for good. Please, just help me one more time. I promise I'll make it up to you!"
To prove his "remorse," he launched into a tirade against Olivia, calling her a vain, materialistic parasite. He even invented a dramatic story about how he had just had a huge fight with her for my sake.
I played along, ducking my head shyly. "I understand. I'll transfer the money to your account later. After everything we've been through together, how could I just stand by and watch you suffer?"
His face lit up like Christmas morning, and he couldn't wait to get his greedy hands on that cash, practically bouncing as he grabbed the card and rushed out.
I followed him to a hospital I knew too well. He carried a bouquet down the hall like a prize and walked straight into Olivia's room.
"Babe," he beamed, "I squeezed some more money out of that pathetic bitch. You can get that designer bag you wanted."
While they cooed at each other, I called his parents. "I wired his medical fees.
"Ryan's my fiancé, so I can't just stand by and let him die."
After my award-winning performance, I led them straight to that luxurious VIP suite I remembered from before.
The money I "transferred," of course, was a lie. The money Ryan had was the last of his parents' savings, which he had siphoned from their account.
But his only thought was for Olivia. The moment the money was his, he ran to her.
Through the glass panel in the door, we could see them cuddle up like newlyweds playing house.
Ryan was sitting on the edge of her bed, tenderly feeding her soup.
"Look how skinny you've gotten, babe. You need to eat more. Was the money I gave you enough?" Ryan cooed, pouring on the concern.
As he spoke, he pulled out a thick envelope from his bag and slid it across to her with a flourish.
If I had to guess, that envelope held every last cent his parents owned. He really was willing to give her everything.
Olivia took the envelope, dumped the cash out onto the bed, and started counting bills one by one, barely even looking up.
"Yeah, this should cover the surgery," she replied casually.
Ryan flashed her this pathetic, eager-to-please grin. "Perfect. If it's not enough, I'll make that woman cough up more."
I sneered. Ryan thought he was saving Olivia, but he was actually digging his own grave.
With a loud bang, Ryan's parents kicked the door open, storming into the room like a pair of enraged bulls.
"Ryan! You son of a bitch!" Mark roared, lunging at Ryan with a flurry of punches and kicks.
Cecelia yanked Olivia by the hair and slapped her hard, twice.
"You shameless little tramp!" she screeched. "You steal our money, and now you're trying to ruin my son!"
I watched from the doorway and sneered. The real show was just beginning.
Suddenly, Ryan whipped around to glare at me.
"Evie, didn't you promise you'd help me? This is serious. Where's the money? Come on, hand it over!" he demanded.
I just curled my lips into a cold smirk. "Don't count on me for another dime. I've done way more than enough for you already."
With that, I didn't even bother looking at him again. I turned to his parents instead.
"Olivia bought a kidney a few days ago. The surgery isn't scheduled yet. Right now, that kidney is the only one that can save your son."
Silence slammed into the room.
Ryan's lips trembled. He turned to Olivia, voice shaking.
"Olivia, you really found a kidney? For everything we've been through, can you give it to me? I'm still young. I can't die like this."
Olivia stared down at him, cool and untouched.
"You swore you'd do anything for me. You 'loved' me enough to scam your fiancée and steal your parents' life savings. I need that kidney now. And you won't give it to me?"
