Chapter 3

Late at night, I was awakened by the chaotic shouting outside.

As soon as I opened the door, a blast of heat mixed with thick smoke rushed toward me.

Not far away, the shed where I kept those little creatures was ablaze.

The flames painted half the sky red, lighting up the courtyard and revealing the panicked faces of the servants.

But no one moved to put out the fire. They just stood there and watched.

My heart dropped, and I rushed toward the inferno.

"Stop!" A large hand grabbed my arm from behind, holding me in a vice-like grip.
