When I was enjoying the moment, my phone rang. It was Sophie, my junior from college.

As soon as I picked up, her sweet voice came through the line: "Hey, David's back in town. We're throwing a little get-together this afternoon to celebrate his return. Want to join us?"

I wasn't on speaker, but Sophie's voice carried easily. I could hear her loud and clear.
